SAFEGUARDING & CHILD PROTECTION POLICY

1. OUR COMMITMENT

At SparkActiv, the safety, wellbeing and happiness of every child is our highest priority.

We are committed to providing a safe, positive and inclusive environment where children can enjoy sport, movement and physical activity while feeling valued, respected and supported.

All adults involved with SparkActiv share responsibility for safeguarding children and promoting their welfare.

2. SAFEGUARDING LEAD

The Designated Safeguarding Lead is responsible for overseeing safeguarding procedures, responding to concerns and ensuring appropriate action is taken where necessary.

3. OUR RESPONSIBILITIES

SparkActiv is committed to:

• Providing a safe environment for all children.
• Promoting children's physical, emotional and social wellbeing.
• Treating every child with dignity, fairness and respect.
• Taking all safeguarding concerns seriously.
• Following appropriate safeguarding procedures.
• Working with parents, carers and relevant agencies when required.
• Maintaining appropriate safeguarding records.

4. STAFF AND COACHING STANDARDS

All staff, coaches and volunteers are expected to:

• Act as positive role models.
• Maintain professional boundaries at all times.
• Use appropriate language and behaviour.
• Treat all children fairly and equally.
• Promote inclusion and respect.
• Follow safeguarding procedures.
• Report concerns immediately.

5. RECRUITMENT AND SUITABILITY

SparkActiv aims to ensure that all adults working with children are suitable for their role.

Where applicable, this may include:

• Enhanced DBS checks.
• Verification of qualifications and experience.
• Reference checks.
• Safeguarding awareness training.

6. RESPONDING TO CONCERNS

Any safeguarding concern will be taken seriously.

If a child discloses information that causes concern, staff will:

• Listen carefully.
• Remain calm and supportive.
• Avoid making promises of confidentiality.
• Record information accurately.
• Report concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
• Seek advice from relevant safeguarding authorities where appropriate.

7. PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEO

Photographs and videos may occasionally be used to promote SparkActiv programmes and activities.

Images will only be used where appropriate parental consent has been obtained.

Parents may withdraw consent at any time by contacting us.

 

8. ONLINE SAFETY

All communication with parents will be conducted professionally through approved communication channels.

SparkActiv will not knowingly communicate directly with children through personal social media accounts.

9. EQUALITY, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

SparkActiv welcomes children from all backgrounds, abilities and experience levels.

We are committed to creating an environment free from discrimination, bullying, harassment or exclusion.

10. POLICY REVIEW

This policy will be reviewed periodically and updated when necessary to ensure compliance with safeguarding best practice and relevant legislation.
